The shelf life of gratitude

We call a plate dirty the moment the food is gone...never mind the nourishment it gave, it’s discardable or a stained utensil once utility is met.
People? No different. Once they’ve served their purpose, we wipe them out like stains on porcelain...unseen, unthanked, unfelt.
Gratitude doesn’t fade, just erased. We are so addicted to distractions, so attached to utility...that even loyalty comes stamped with a hidden shelf life, shorter than convenience and cheaper than memories.
